Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the corpus of inscriptions from Ptolemaic Egypt project, funded by the AHRC for 3 years from October 2013. The Research Assistant will work at the Centre for the Study of Ancient Documents under the supervision of Professors Alan Bowman, Simon Hornblower, and Dr Charles Crowther. The postholder will draft Greek, bilingual and trilingual inscriptions on stone from Ptolemaic Egypt (323-30 BCE). They will also digitise and record metadata of squeezes and photographs.
The successful applicant will have a doctorate, or equivalent, in the field of Classics and Ancient History, a thorough knowledge and demonstrable command of the language and content of Greek inscriptions, especially in the Hellenistic world. The postholder must also be familiar with website design, software and applications relevant to Greek documentary texts. Knowledge of EpiDoC would be an advantage.
